“your rent should be a third of your income” well wouldn’t that be nice. wouldn’t it. lower the rent pussy
Casual observation from someone old enough to remember: in the year 2000 financial advice was that rent should be no more than ¼ of your income.
Until the mid 80s, the advice was that if you must rent instead of owning, then that 20% of your monthly income (oh yes, only 20%) should include all your utilities too.
After all, rent costs more than a mortgage, so it should offer more too.
The housing market is a fucking travesty.
Hmm what happened in the mid eighties….
fuck

the line between not going out as an act of self-care and not going out as a symptom of depression is but a gossamer thread
Fantasy monarchy concept that some anime has probably already done: A classroom of heirs-to-the-throne.
A relatively stable empire manages to keep the hereditary rule from imploding by establishing a system where only a very small handful of people know the true identity of the next heir to the throne. The next ruler is hidden among a group of about 20 randomly selected orphans, all roughly the same age as the heir, all assigned to be raised by different notable families. Besides being a great honour, the duty of raising one of the potential heirs is a great foothold to power, because even if their Chosen Child isn’t the actual heir, the other children get appointed to other powerful positions depending on their personal talents once they’re grown.
Being raised by their appointed families from infancy, the Chosen Childen are all given the same royal education, in the same classroom and by the same teachers. The entire point and purpose of this is that none of them know which one of them is going to rule over them all one day. Being an empire of unfathomable power, this kind of childhood upbringing is the only time in the future ruler’s life when they have peers and equals, and by necessity they learn to both be diplomatic, and always wary of potential threats - you can’t exactly bully the weird kid of your class just for shits and giggles if there’s a 1 in 20 chance that he’ll one day have the power to have all of you beheaded on a whim.
best thing tumblr ever did for me is the term “rotating it in my mind”. it’s really true that sometimes you think about something real hard but you can’t tell what the thoughts are exactly. it’s revolutionary stuff, i might even say
sometimes the subject of your thoughts is just in this thing
Tbh I think fandom generally needs to get better at sitting with the uncomfortable fact that a story/fanwork/meme/whatever can hurt one person and help another
This is why I think “tag warning” culture is kinder and more constructive than cancel culture / “no problematic content” culture. One size does not fit all, but if we learn to be more aware of the fact that the same thing can be emotionally validating or cathartic to one person and upsetting to another, and pick up a general mindset of thinking before we post, “what might people need a heads up for in this content?”, we grow more compassionate, more thoughtful, and more understanding of the differences in people’s experiences.
